Let’s Get Arty at Singapore Art Museum!!!

Have you visited the Art Garden? Actually, I was not even aware of a place like this. Kaiden saw the Art Garden exhibition advertisement and kept bugging me to bring him there. So there we were… on the way to the Singapore Art Museum with the three kiddos.

IMG_20130618_124445The children were very excited especially Kaiden who has been looking forward to this trip. The moment we reached there, he recognized the gigantic white  bunny lying in front of the museum. So now… let’s embark on our journey in the Art Garden.

Let's Go SAM

The vibrant exhibition room in the first level attracted our attention the moment we registered to venture. The entrance is free to all Singapore Citizen. Kiddos took off their shoes and went on to explore The Enchanted Garden City on their own. Colorful murals on nursery rhymes and some of the famous twisted fairytales that children have read were on all the walls. The colors used were so enticing that children stayed in this room the longest.Enchanted Garden City

A few activities were happening in this room. One of the activities, Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, which children drew, colored and designed  their own version of enchanted garden. Crayons and markers were provided for the children. Children gathered around a pond-like table to doodle while parents sat along the murals to watch. Eye power… quite easy. :)

The girls were so engrossed in the designing while Kaiden did his too. He drew the rainbow bridge that he saw and ran up and down umpteen times in the room.

The duo, Kaitlyn and Kaiden, went on to complete other activities in the room. They searched for number of frogs that appeared around the room and gathered the titles of the nursery rhymes and famous twisted fairytales.

*By now, my camera just shut off. :( The result of not charging before a trip. Picture from here onwards were then taken with my Samsung S3.*

Next, we moved on to Level 2, another exhibition on Around the Day in Eighty Worlds. Transient to another world, the room was tastefully decorated with many beautifully colored and designed hot air balloons by children who had visited the place. As we walked further in, the room transformed into a monochrome of black and white. Children started playing with the games on the wall. Not forgetting looking through the kaleidoscope strategically located at different parts of the room.

Children went on spider hunting with some newly acquainted friends while I decided to do some craft with Karyn. Kaitlyn and Kaiden also donated $2 each to have a kaleidoscope arty pack which was easily created and beautified on the spot.

Karyn decorated the hot air balloon with the colored papers provided. A job well done!Around the Days in Eighty WorldNext exhibition was the Stellar Cave II. The display was entirely created with screws and thread. Making use of the UV rays, I was in awe the moment I stepped into the dimly-lit room, a phenomena art piece awaited me.

Stellar Cave IIChildren had their fair share of creating similar works with screws and thread. Definitely they need some visualization skills and patience, taking care not to entangle the thread while making sure that each screw is wound with the thread.

Stellar Cave IIDecided to rest our feet and calm the children down, we entered the film screenings room. Karyn was scared for the room was pitch dark and quiet. We watched a short clip for about ten minutes before moving to the next exhibit, Les rêves engloutis – Glossy Dreams in Depths.

This exhibit room showcased arts in 3-dimension. We put on the 3D specs before walking through the aisle. Children then popped by the activity corner again to create masks. Karyn handstamped her masks while the two designed with colors and markers.

This was also our last stop. Pretty much activity based and children love it. They even explored The Enchanted Garden City for the second time before leaving the place.

If you have not visited Art Garden, try making this the last excursion out with your children before the school holiday ends. It would be fun. :)

My New Hideout

Life is returning back to the days as a SAHM without Jonathan. Got 2 weeks of holidays to spend time with the kids but the days do not seem to be a lot after counting them. Late nights of crafting… and so much more time in the day to play with the children and blog. :)

Last Friday, I visited MAAD at the Red Dot Museum again. I love the atmosphere there especially with all the crafty and arty people around. :) I reached MAAD at about 5.30pm when the stalls owners were still busy setting up their display.

I strolled around with my camera exploring more of the place. The last time I went was with the kiddos. They were practically running around the museum. :)

The pamphlets were randomly scattered in a wooden box.

Some of the interesting things I found.

And there were portrait drawing after dark. The personnels were still setting up the chairs and lighting.

Actually my main purpose there was to attend the Crafty Party organized by Jasmine from Gift Wrapsody. She will be my new craft supplier for bezel charm and glass cabochon. :)

Remember my name charm necklace collection?

The charms were sealed with glaze and I had to keep on redoing some of them as there were too many bubbles presented during the curing period. The process was long and usually took a day or two for them to dry up as well. :( Jasmine offers me a good alternative to fast and pretty customised charms.

I love craft parties but there isn’t many in Singapore (or I was unaware of). It is quite common in the US though. It is an opportunity for me to meet other crafters and to share each other’s knowledge.

And…. what have I done at the Party?

Cufflinks for Jonathan and a ring painted with nail polish for myself. :) I enjoyed myself tremendously. Hope there will be more craft parties for sharing. :)

Happy Easter!!!!

I am so thankful for the long weekend. I cleared lots of my markings, spent time with my precious lil’s and getting into the mood of searching for easter inspirations. I also hope that I can have some time tonight to come up with some accessories without the company of Jonathan. He is at Kelantan tomb sweeping with the family. :)

Anyone interested in an egg hunt? These eggs are awesome looking. :)

Working Monday

Maybe I shall declare Monday as working monday. :) Ever since Kaiden joined Kaitlyn in her school. I have gotten more free time in the morning to do nitty gritty stuff on my accessories. Stuff including taking pictures of the items, photo editing and with bonus, able to list some of the items for sale.

Took the chance to visit NTUC just now and saw some cute cookware for sale and I could not resist putting them into my basket. New background for my photoshoot. :) A high tea cup for my long earrings and a heart shape dish for laying the accessories. Who can resist a heart shape dish? :)

Since I declared today as Working Monday, I definitely have some new stuff coming up. :)

Firstly would be the colourful chrysanthemum rings. Breaking away from the usual antique copper, silver or gold ring base, I chose the coloured enamel ring bases to match these lovelies. Ring bases are imported from USA, thus less commonly seen on the market. A swarosvki crystal flatback stud is added to the center of the chrissy for a more classy look. :)

And my pick, definitely the vibrant yellow chrissy with the sea green ring base. :) LOVE IT!!!

Secondly, are the little flowers clips, Cheryl. They are sold in set of 3.

Kaitlyn loves the yellow. :)

With the same type of flowers, I created headbands which are suitable for newborns and babies. :) Somehow, Kaitlyn prefers the headband version. :)

They are available in four colours.

I will be listing these items whenever I have time in between at  ChippyChipDovey {shop}. Definitely will make sure all items are up by the end of today. Happy Shopping!!!!

Over the Weekend…

I joined a bazaar with Flashlightbatteriess and was pretty disappointed this time round. The bazaar was held at Soul, a pub at Odeon Towers. It was super cramp and pretty dark due to the lack of lightings.

I arrived at the venue about half an hour earlier and the queue was already a bend and around the building. I was pretty lucky to be able to get a spot in the bazaar. There were some who were really late, could not even get into the area. In the end, the organisers had to do a refund informing them that they ran out of tables. Some who did not want to leave actually set up their tables along the road. Though glad that I have gotten a table, my space was not exactly pleasant, I wasjust outside the female toilet and the walking space was hardly squeezeable for two people. :( Comparing to others, I was considered pretty fortunate. I tried walking around the bazaar and could see two rows of tables hiding in both corners of the pub without lighting. There was a room filled with sellers and tables as well which I would not even dare to step in. Shoppers who stepped there, claimed that the room to be a battlefield before they walked away.

I am totally disappointed with flashlightbatteriess this time round. I think they should at least survey the place before they commit.

On the bright side, for the bazaar, I actually stepped myself away from the computer and worked very hard through the weeks to create more jewelry and accessories for the event. Now that the bazaar is over, I shall be launching them on ChippyChipDovey {shop} as well as ES Creations. On top of those, I will be placing some of the items in the Toys Outpost box in Vivio.

Bloom

A set of victorian rose ear studs for your selection. They come in 10 different colours. The rose cabochon are specially imported from USA. Each flower is made using the fall and spring 2011 pantone colours. I am so in love with these sets of ear studs. Firstly, the colours are vibrant and gave out a natural sheen. Secondly, they are not painted thus even if I accidentally drop it, a little chip will not make a difference.

Can’t help but kept some of the colours for myself. :)

I also created 2 sets of earrings with the rhodium and gold plated four petals flowers earstud imported from Japan. I attached a pure white czech teardrop glass bead to the stud. With the beautifully crafted ear stud, a simple white glass is good enough to show its elegance and beauty.

Silver Blossom

Gold Blossom

Komoko

This pair of earrings was crafted with nine swarosvki pearls stringed and wired into a loop before attached a rhinestone charm. Though a simple pair of earrings, the shine from the pearl crystals and bling from the rhinestone are definitely souls attracting. :)

The bazaar is already over but I am not stopping my crafting and beading hobby. Stay tune for more items which are coming soon in both ES Creations and ChippyChipDovey {shop}. :)

Antropologie Inspired Yoyo Clip by Dearest Kaitlyn

Remember my previous tutorial post on a Fabric Yoyo Bobby Pin? This time round, instead of getting the fabric yoyo from Daiso, I decided to gather my own fabric and make the yoyo instead.

While I was doing my usual accessories making stuff shopping at Chinatown. I spotted this amazing fuss free yoyo maker from one of the shelves in Golden Dragon, a store that sells anything you need from knitting to crafting and to fabric. :) Definitely one of my must go store if I were to shop for crafting items. :)

There are four sizes to choose from: small, medium, large and extra large. I chose the large. Just a little size bigger than the Daiso’s yoyos.

This time round, I have gotten my inspirations from here:

{Source: Anthropologie}

For this tutorial, I decided to leave the sewing to my little girl, Kaitlyn. On and off, she picks up sewing skills from Granny and she was so happy to join in my crafting hobby. :)

What you need:

  • A ‘quick’ Yoyo Craft Maker
  • Some fabric
  • needle and thread
  • Embellishedments such as ribbons, lace or buttons
  • Clippy clip

Let’s check out the maker.

It’s pretty self explanatory. Place the cloth in between the two pieces of yoyo maker, then I helped Kaitlyn to cut around the maker leaving about 3mm allowance. The yoyo maker has many holes and all Kaitlyn had to do was to pick up the needle and thread, did a running stitch around the maker. While she did that, she had to be constantly reminded to push in the protuding cloth while sewing.

After she had finished sewing a round the maker, she removed the fabric from the maker and I helped her to pull the thread to gather it into a yoyo. I finished it up with a knot. Kaitlyn then chose the embellishments that she liked. She wanted the silver ribbon to go with the purple button for her friend, Emma and herself while pink button for Ulrica.

Slowly, she attached the ribbons and buttons to the yoyo with my help. Help must be rendered while using the hot glue gun. :)

Below is how they look when they were done.

Instead of bobby pins, Kaitlyn prefered the clippy clip. I squeezed the hot glue onto the back of the yoyo and she attached it to the clip.

She was so proud of her work. Presents to you Kaitlyn in her handmade version of ‘Antropologie’ Fabric Yoyo Clip. :)
